Large privately owned wetland complex. Much of the area appears to be the same as this, in a patchy woodland type confined to old river levees. The lower areas of the wetland appear to be dominated by Polygonum hydropiperoides or Scirpus cyperinus/atrovirens. US Rt. 19 is ca 475m W. To the N ca 30m is Puddy Run and at roughly 100m N is Muddlety Valley Rd.;Densely vegetated woodland dominated by black willow. The plot is on an old river levee of Puddy Run. Underneath the willow trees the diversity is low. However in the openings between the trees is a dense, lush, near impenetrable wall of shrubby, viney and herbaceous vegetation.
Representativeness
Large stand of discontinuous patches of Salix nigra woodland growing on old stream levees. This is the largest stand of black willow I have observed in WV.
